Former Alexandria Preschool Director Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion

Susan C. Valentine will be sentenced Oct. 18.

Fairfax County resident Susan C. Valentine pled guilty to tax evasion Wednesday, according to an announcement made by the Justice Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

According to court documents, Valentine was the former director of the Epiphany Weekday School (EWS) in Alexandria. From 2008 to 2010, evidence shows that Valentine received a salary and also took additional funds from the school for herself and her family members.

Even though Valentine earned an income during this time, she failed to file income tax returns or pay income taxes for 2008 through 2010, according to the recent news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

As director of the school, Valentine also caused false payroll tax forms to be filed with the IRS on behalf of EWS. U.S. District Court Judge James Cacheris scheduled sentencing for Valentine for Oct. 18.

Valentine faces a maximum of five years in prison, three years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine and a $100 special assessment.  She has agreed to pay restitution to the IRS.
