Voila Serves Up Pastries and Coffee in Style

When you walk into the new Alexandria pastry shop, Voila on North Kings Highway, the atmosphere screams elegance. For the past few weeks, local residents have been anticipating the opening of the new shop, and Voila didn't disappoint.

Owner Mekdeswork Altaye said they had a soft opening July 20 and had a great response from the community, including from neighboring businesses in the Huntington Station shopping center.

"We are settling in and getting to know our neighbors," Altaye said. "I love Alexandria and I think it's a good addition to the area."

Voila offers delicious tarts, cakes, locally roasted coffee and will soon include a brunch menu. Altaye said they are still trying to get an idea of what customers really want.

Altaye said baking has always been a part of her life. Her mother and grandmother baked a lot in their homes and she also baked often for her own family. After friends told her that she should package some of her baked goods and sell them, Altaye made the decision to get proper training and do just that.

After completing the pastry program at L'Academy de Cuisine, Altaye was ready to start a new venture with Voila.

Voila's official grand opening is scheduled for Aug. 11. Stop by the new pastry shop for some delicious desserts and wonderfully roasted coffee.
