ReplyDid not know about cutting back coneflowers. Thanks. I cut or Virginia spiderwort Tradescantia whenever it falls over and can do this several times a season (if I have not dug this invasive up).

ReplyNancy, Doesn't look like I have crossed the line yet on gardening. I did have a friend who only planted black or white flowers and would forget she had a tree in her trunk. What about stopping to get plants and bulbs when you see landscapers digging them up in public areas? Or like me who photograph everything that grows? Angela

ReplyI once rented a house in New Orleans that had about 30 camelia bushes. I asked the landlord for funds to fertilize then and tke care of the rest of the garden and he would not do it. Very foolish. Most of those bushes are now gone.

ReplyMy asters have not yet bloomed this year. Also have a problem distinguishing the good ones from the common wed asters when they are little.

I guess I am the friend with the ppile in the driveway. I find that adding sand to compost which has been sived of stones and large pieces of material works well for almost every planting application in our clay soil. I use straight compost only for top dressing.
