Bill would have allowed those with medical conditions access to retailers' employee-only bathrooms.
The Restroom Access Act, a bill proposed by Del. Rob Krupicka (D-45) that would have allowed people with certain medical conditions quick access to employee-only bathrooms at local retailers, failed Monday in a General Assembly subcommittee after no members made a motion to advance the bill. Similar bills have passed in at least 13 states, according to a website about Inflammatory Bowel Disease, or IBD. It first became a law in 2005, after a 14-year old girl with Crohn's disease, Ally Bain of Illinois, was denied access to a restroom during a flare-up. An immune disorder, Crohn's disease — and similar diseases like ulcerative colitis — is characterized by inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in diarrhea, abdominal pain and…

He has set up a Facebook page to rally constituents and others to get behind a $30 million bond referendum to protect the Huntington area from flooding. The page, called "Protect Huntington from Flooding," is raising awareness about the Fairfax County bond issue that would pay for storm drainage improvements. Voters have the option to vote on the bond on Nov. 6. Here's the description Fairfax County uses to describe the 2012 Stormwater Bond: "If approved by voters, the $30 million stormwater bond will pay to build a levee and pumping station to protect the Huntington neighborhood from flooding. During the past 10 years, three floods …

Libertarian Justin Malkin is one of three candidates on the ballot in Tuesday's 45th District special election.
Justin Malkin’s platform for the 45th District seat in the House of Delegates is a simple one, one that he even says is a little corny. “I honestly believe in my message and that it will resound with voters, and that’s social tolerance and fiscal responsibility,” he said. The Libertarian candidate is on Tuesday’s special election ballot, where he will face Democrat Rob Krupicka and Republican Tim McGhee. How does his Libertarian Party philosophy mesh with a constituency that largely depends on the government for jobs and livelihood? Malkin says it’s an uphill battle, but he also believes the 45th District is not an outright void when it comes to libertarian thinking. “I think there are a lot people out there who will take a government job …
