Student athletes were recognized for outstanding achievements.
Student athletes were recognized for their achievements at the West Potomac High School Winter Sports Awards on Sunday night. Athletes from each sport were selected for MVP and Coaches Awards. Seniors Will Rupp and Lauren Price were awarded with the Scholar Athlete Award, which is presented to a male and female senior who excels in their sport and academics. Student athletes are nominated by their coaches & the winner is voted by all winter head coaches.

West Potomac’s swim team swam fast, set a new Northern Region record, and achieved multiple best times at the Northern Region Swim & Dive Championship Meet at Oak Marr Rec Center on Feb. 2. Five Wolverine swimmers will advance to the state swim meet on February 15 and 16 at George Mason University. Sophomore Michael Valceanu, who placed 6th in the 100-yard butterfly in a state meet qualifying time of 52.97 and 12th in the 200-yard freestyle in a personal best 1:48.66 led the boys team. Valceanu also swam the butterfly leg of the 200-yard medley relay with teammates junior Cyrus Adams-Mardi (backstroke), sophomore Will Rausch (breaststroke) and freshman D.J. Pinter (freestyle). Soccer player commits to play soccer at University of Pennsylvania.
West Potomac High School senior Lindsey Sawczuk committed Wednesday to play soccer next fall at the University of Pennsylvania. Sawczuk began her soccer career by playing for the Gunston Soccer League. In 2011, she began playing for the McLean Power Soccer Team under Coach Clyde Watson; her team won the ECNL National Championship in 2012. She is a member of the Virginia State Olympic Development Team and the U-17 Region One Olympic Development Team. She was a four-year starter at midfield for the West Potomac Wolverines and earned Patriot District honors and the WPHS Golden Boot Award. Lindsey has also played basketball all four years and is the starting point guard. She is an AP Scholar with a 4.33 GPA, National Honor Society President, …

Chris Blewitt and Jayme Murray signed letters of intent Wednesday on National Signing Day.
West Potomac High School athletes Chris Blewitt and Jayme Murray signed their letters of intent Wednesday to play college ball. Blewit signed a letter of intent Wednesday morning to play football this fall at the University of Pittsburgh. The signing marked the end of a recruiting process that began with Blewitt, a kicker and punter, winning a kicking competition at Pitt last summer. This past season at West Potomac, the All-District, All-Region, All-Met and All-State selection kicked eight field goals, including a school record setting 51-yarder. All but three of Blewitt's kickoffs reached the end zone for touchbacks. He also averaged 43.5 yards punting. West Potomac football coach Jeremiah Davis said that Blewitt was a "tremendous" …

The West Potomac Wolverines fall short against the Lake Braddock Bruins during home game.
West Potomac's football team went head-to-head with Lake Braddock and lost, 37-23, during a home game Friday night. Although the Wolverines started the first half strong, the Bruins' defense gave them trouble after halftime. During the first quarter, West Potomac's Demornay Pierson-el scored the first touchdown, quickly setting the pace for the game. Kicker Chris Blewitt made the field goal, making the score early in the game 7-0 in West Potomac's favor. "A lot of us have watched him [Pierson-el] for years, and he's a great player," said West Potomac's Freshman Head Coach Dale Roach.
