The winner of America's Next Top Model and WPGC radio host slated to co-host
West Potomac Academy (WPA) Fashion Design students will host the seventh annual Runway Ready Concept to Catwalk fashion show on May 10 at West Potomac High School. Fashion Design students are involved in producing all of the garments for their collections as well as planning, producing and promoting the show. This professional-calibre fashion show will also include guest designs from Nam Nguyen, Speak Vintage, Walish Gooshe, and My Bougie Baby. Guy Lambert of WPGC-FM, 95.5 radio and America's Next Top Model cycle eight winner Jaslene Gonzalez will host the fashion show. From 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., guests can shop in the Pop Up! West Potomac Academy students are participating in Crystal Couture this week.
Crystal City will sparkle a bit more this week. Now in its fifth year, Crystal Couture kicked off Tuesday night. More than 40 Washington-area designers and boutiques will be there on any given night through Saturday. Organizers expect about 4,000 people to visit the 12th floor of 251 18th St. for the high-end fashion show and sale. Put on by the Crystal City Business Improvement District, or BID, this year's event showcases 26,000-square-feet of vacant office space that's been transformed with a 400-foot runway that wraps around the room, a bar, a photo booth, various booths for the boutiques and free makeup and hair makeovers in the center of the room. Health fair will teach students about basic healthcare principles.
West Potomac Academy Health and Human Services students will host a health fair Wednesday for the children in the West Potomac Head Start Program. The theme, Passport to Health, will offer the younger students an opportunity to learn about personal health while having a Passport to Health booklet stamped. Head Start participants will visit with West Potomac Academy students studying Occupational and Physical Therapy, Pharmacy Tech,and other subjects. The younger children will learn what happens during a regular check-up with the doctor and dentist, among other health topics. Fashion design students will showcase their skills at Crystal City's signature fashion event, which begins Tuesday.
Fashion design students from the West Potomac Academy will participate in the fifth annual Crystal Couture event this week in Crystal City. Current fashion design students and alumni will showcase runway collections alongside professional designers. Students will be working behind the scenes by working with designers, styling models, and assisting with event production. Students will also have a boutique display area at the event to sell their T-shirt collection and original garments. Proceeds from the T-shirt collection and original garments will benefit the Fashion Design program at West Potomac Academy. Music and Computer Technology students have donated 50 copies of a holiday compilation to Capital Caring Alexandria.
Music and Computer Technology students at West Potomac Academy have donated 50 copies of a holiday compilation CD to Capital Caring of Alexandria nursing staff, community physicians, and hospice patients. 2012 marks the third year in a row that these students have embarked on this service project. The compilation CD, “Thoughts and Mediations, Part II,” includes a mix of original and remixed compilations of easy listening and holiday favorites. The Music and Computer Technology program at West Potomac Academy teaches students about the business of music production, composition, and marketing. West Potomac Academy and Capital Caring have an active business partnership.

The dance groups will perform a modern version of 'The Nutcracker' starting Thursday evening.
West Potomac Academy and Alexandria Community Dance will join together to present their fourth annual performance of The Nutcracker, the traditional holiday story with a modern twist. Performances will be Nov. 29, 30 and Dec. 1 at West Potomac High School. West Potomac Academy’s dance students will participate in the entire production, both on stage and behind the scenes, and Advanced Dance students will have featured performances. The performance will include ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, and hip-hop dance and gymnastics. More than 100 students from the Alexandria area auditioned to be a part of the performance.
