Hyland will tour fields at West Potomac High School and Mount Vernon High School.
Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerry Hyland will meet with parents, students, and VOICE leaders Monday to provide an update on improving local recreational facilities. Supervisor Hyland will join Park Board rep Linwood Gorham and School Board member Dan Storck for a tour of the practice fields and stadium field at West Potomac High School and hear updates from the Wolverine Athletic Boosters. Hyland, Gorham, and Storck will then visit Mount Vernon High School to deliver an update on improving local recreational facilities. VOICE is asking parents, coaches, students, and community members to show support for improved recreation facilities on Wednesday.
Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay will visit local parks on Wednesday to learn more about the needs of Route 1 regarding its high youth, heavily low-income community. The visit is organized by Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement, (VOICE). McKay will visit local parks and fields including Mount Vernon High School's practice field and Muddy Hole Park. VOICE is calling on community members, parents, coachesstudents, and athletes to rally at the following locations on Wednesday: West Potomac High School practice field: Students, coaches and parents should arrive by 7 p.m. Supervisor McKay will arrive at 7:20pm and report his progress on the commitments he made to us. Local elected officials say they're largely on board with pleas from the public to enhance recreational opportunities for children along the Route 1 corridor. Hundreds of young athletes, parents and members of the faith community from the Route 1 corridor gathered Monday night at a forum organized by Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement, or VOICE. Speakers pushed for the creation of turf fields at local high schools, a multipurpose surface area at the Audubon mobile home park and a new, low-fee recreation center on the corridor.
