Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Arlington

Someone who bought a ticket at a 7-Eleven in Arlington won $1 million in the Powerball drawing Wednesday night.

If you bought a Powerball ticket at the 7-Eleven at 5267 Lee Highway in Arlington, you may want to check your tickets. John Hagerty, spokesman for Virginia Lottery, said there was a $1 million ticket sold there. That's the closest to the Alexandria area any $1 million winning ticket was sold. There were also $1 million tickets sold in Richmond, Daleville and Harrisonburg, according to lottery spokesman John Hagerty.  The winning tickets of the $580 million jackpot were sold in Missouri and Arizona.  The winning numbers were 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and the Powerball number was 6. Hagerty said between Oct. 3 and Nov. 28, Virginia raised $13.3 million in profit from the sale of lottery tickets. He said by law, that money must go to K-12 education. …

Fairfax Schools to See $23 Million from Lottery This Year

Stores in county sold $75 million in lottery tickets in FY 2011.

Fairfax County Public Schools received $23 million this year from the Virginia Lottery, according to the Virginia Lottery and the state Department of Education. Since 1999, when lottery funds were first directed solely to Virginia’s K-12 public schools, $143.5 million has gone to Fairfax County Public Schools. Lottery sales for fiscal year 2011 in the county were at an all-time high—$75 million—a 50 percent increase from $50 million in 2006. The entire state of Virginia saw lottery sales of $1.4 billion in fiscal year 2011. The state is one of 42 that has lottery ticket sales and saw $53 billion in 2006 (last year statistics available), according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. One Northern Virginia Lottery Player May Have Won $105 Million

Ticket sold in Herndon goes unclaimed, so far.

One Northern Virginian may be celebrating more than our country's independence this weekend. According to the Virginia Lottery, someone bought a Mega Millions lottery ticket at a store in Herndon now worth...$105 million. (Update: The Virginia Lottery announced that the winning ticket was purchased at Giant Food, 1228 Elden St.) The winning numbers were 12-17-30-35-47 and the Mega Ball number 26. Virginia Lottery officials will announce today (Saturday) the name of the store where the winning ticket was purchased. The Virginia Lottery will pay the store a $50,000 bonus. The winner can take the full jackpot in 26 annual payments or a one-time cash option of an estimated $68.1 million before taxes. This is the seventh Mega Millions jackpot …

$1 Million Lottery Winner in Alexandria Finally Comes Forward

It was becoming something of a mystery. Someone in Alexandria had bought a lottery ticket worth $1 million. But they never stepped forward to claim it. Until now. Virginia's New Year's Millionaire Raffle saw three ticket-holders win $1 million each. While two others outside the area claimed their checks, the Alexandria ticketholder waited until today to come forward. Kofi Nyanor of Alexandria told lottery officials he knew on New Year's Day that he had a winning ticket. He kept that ticket tucked away in a safe spot for the next four months. “I went about my business,” he said. “I didn’t tell anyone.” Today he claimed the third and final top prize in the Virginia’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle.
