Walmart Workers Striking Over Black Friday Hours
Walmart employees in different cities, including Washington, D.C., are protesting after learning "Black Friday" store hours start at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.
Walmart workers across the country are striking due to the stores opening earlier this year for the Black Friday weekend. The closest Walmart protest to the northern Virginia area will happen at 4 p.m. Monday at the Capital Plaza Walmart in Washington, DC. Casey Hoag, a campaign communications specialist for The United Food and Commercial Workers, said at the moment, there aren't any strikes planned in Northern Virginia. Between this past week and Thanksgiving, more than 1,000 worksite actions will take place nationwide. Walmart employees all over the country have been striking for the past few months in protest to being silenced, long hours and little pay and issues with healthcare. I am a support manager at wall mart and I do say it is not right for the early scheduling on a major holiday. At 6pm I will have to report on site, meaning less hours to spend with my family and also I'm scheduled for the next day.
