St. Louis School Community Raises Funds to Help Local Toddler

St. Louis Catholic Schools raises money to fund a service dog for Jake Bulmer.

Jake Bulmer is a 2-year-old who resides in the Raceway Farms Subdivision in the Newington area with his parents. Mom Dena Sonneborn-Bulmer said Jake is a cute toddler with blond hair and blue eyes who — at his age — is exploring his environment and learning a little bit about independence. Jake loves chocolate chip cookies, singing and like any baby of the family, getting into his other siblings' belongings. Unlike many 2-year-old boys, Jake experiences severe epilepsy. He will be 3 years old at the end of March and since his second birthday, Jake has spent 40 days in the hospital. So far, his parents and doctors have tried nine different medications to control Jake's seizures. Sonneborn-Bulmer said Jake was born with developmental delays …

Photos: St. Louis School Students Host Annual Wax Museum

Students shared their knowledge of historical figures at the fourth annual wax museum.

Weird Al, Neil Armstrong, George Washington, Mia Hamm, and other modern and historical figures made special appearances Tuesday at the St. Louis School Wax Museum. Fifth grade students portrayed actors, singers, athletes, presidents, and other historical and modern figures. Students had approximately two months to prepare for the event, which involved reading a biography about their chosen subject and filling out an outline survey with talking points about their person, said fifth grade teacher Meaghan Leslie. “They could choose anyone in the world,” Leslie said. “As long as there’s a biography of the person, they could do it.” On Tuesday, students dressed as "their" person and shared their presentation with classmates. St. Louis Catholic School Hosts ‘Wax Museum’

Fifth-grade students represent famous and historical characters

These children were made to be both seen and heard. Forty-two fifth graders at St. Louis Catholic School brought history to life Tuesday through a school “wax museum.” Each student dressed up as a historical or famous character and provided an oral history to onlookers when they pressed a sticker on each student’s chest. When the sticker was pressed, the still-as-statues students came to life, telling about the lives of characters including presidents Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy, Helen Keller, Sacagawea, Yankees captain Derek Jeter, Saint Padre Pio and even Osama bin Laden. Student Mimi Najafzadeh, dressed in black and red robes, recounted how her character, Queen Isabella I of Castille, suffered the deaths of many loved ones and …
