Police: Maryland Woman Charged with Bribery of a School Official Angeline Nkar, 38, of Maryland, allegedly gave a school official cash on April 3 in an apparent attempt to influence a personnel decision. Nkar was arrested on Monday and charged with bribery of a school official. Police: Woman Robbed by Juvenile in Mount Vernon A 44-year-old was retrieving her cell phone from her vehicle Monday when a juvenile brandished a knife and demanded her purse. The victim fled and was not injured. Several officers, a helicopter, and a K-9 team searched for the suspect. A 13-year-old suspect was located and charged with armed robbery. Huntley Meadows Park Wetlands Restoration Begins April 17 The Fairfax County Park Authority will begin restoring the wetlands at Huntley Meadows Park on April 17, after more than 20 years of site monitoring and project planning. The $3 million reconstruction project is funded by the Fairfax County Park bond and some grants, said Park Manager Kevin Munroe. The hemi-marsh consists of 50 percent open water and 50 percent vegetated water. During the 1980s, silt and debris that got into the park due to redevelopment projects in the area reduced the water depth and wildlife, Munroe explained. Tougher Texting-While-Driving Law Moves Through Virginia Legislature State lawmakers passed House Bill 1907 on a 92-4 vote, increases the fine upon conviction to $250 — up from $20 — for the first texting-while-driving offense and $500 for each subsequent conviction.
