A Labor Of Love
A bus ride from hell leads to a drink from heaven
A year ago, my fiance and I traveled through Italy on a two week vacation. On our way to Praiano, a small fishing town, we had the opportunity to experience the Amalfi Coast road via bus. Built on cliffs above the Mediterranean Sea, the road is narrow and ridiculously curvy. Our bus driver careened at full speed around each sharp turn, oblivious to the full blown panic attack I was experiencing. To make things worse, there were locals on mopeds zipping perilously in and out of traffic the entire time. We arrived that evening exhausted, grumpy and amazed to be alive. That night we dined on fresh clams and mussels drenched in olive oil and garlic. The meal ended with a shot of homemade limoncello. It was ice cold, smooth, and delicious, …
