Fairfax County Police to Get New Police Vehicles

FCPD provided information about the new police cruisers during the recent CAC meeting at Franconia District Police Station.

Fairfax County police officers are saying farewell to their old cruisers as the department purchases 127 Ford Police Interceptor sedans and utility vehicles in FY2013. Retired Lieutenant Chalrie Bond — who is now the director of the logistics and property division for the department — conducted a presentation during Wednesday night's Citizen Advisory Committee meeting. Bond said Ford Motor Vehicles recently discontinued the Crown Victoria Police Interceptors. The 2007 model was the last of its kind. FCPD has 1,500 vehicles — 762 which are assigned to eight stations, and Franconia District Police Station has 109 of those vehicles alone, Bond said. Police: Mother's Day Shooting, Robbery on Fordson Court

Police charged Germarta Whitaker of Alexandria on Sunday.

Fairfax County police responded to a call of a shot person around 3:15 p.m. on Mother's Day in the 3000 block of Fordson Court, according to the recent daily activity report. The FCPD Public Information Office said the suspect and victim know each other, but police are unsure of what was said or what the two were talking about prior to the incident. A police investigation led to the arrest of Germarta Whitaker, 25, of Alexandria. Whitaker was charged with use of a firearm, robbery and malicious wounding. About 250 students biked to school Friday morning.

Hollin Meadows Elementary School in Mount Vernon District joined schools across the country this week to celebrate in this year's National Bike to School Day . The event was supposed to take place Wednesday, but due to weather conditions, it was postponed until Friday. About 250 students biked or walked to school with the help of parents, teachers and community leaders as chaperones. Del. Scott Surovell was one of the many chaperones leading a ride-in group of students from Sherwood Hall Lane. Walk/Bike to School Day events were established by the National Center for Safe Routes to School to raise awareness of the need for safe routes for bicycling and walking and to emphasize the importance of physical activity, pedestrian safety, …

UPDATE: Hollin Meadows Postpones Bike to School Day Event

Because of weather conditions Wednesday, the event has been postponed until Friday.

UPDATE (12 p.m., Wednesday): Due to weather conditions Wednesday, Hollin Meadows Elementary School has postponed its Bike to School Day. FCPD to Have Active Presence During Holiday Weekend

DWI patrol will be busy in Fairfax County for Cinco de Mayo.

With multiple festivals, parties and events such as the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo celebrations scheduled throughout the weekend, the Fairfax County Police Department will be busy on DWI patrol in the county. PIO Lucy Caldwell said in an email to Patch that it's likely many people will include alcohol in their celebrations this weekend. "We strongly encourage revelers not to drink and drive and to assign a non-drinking person to be the designated driver," she said. A DWI checkpoint is scheduled for the Sully Police District Friday night and another checkpoint will take place in the McLean Police District on Saturday night. Crime Report: Three Arrested for Drunken Driving

The following incidents were reported to the Mount Vernon Police District up to April 29.

The following incidents were reported in the Mount Vernon District Police Station. Police arrested three for drunken driving on Friday as officers from the Mount Vernon Police District patrolled the area for intoxicated drivers. Three were charged with driving while intoxicated, twenty five summonses, and 29 warnings were issued, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. Robbery A 32-year-old reported that he was walking and counting his money when an unknown man snatched the cash and fled, according to police. The incident took place at 7:25 p.m. on Saturday on the 3100 block of Lockheed Boulevard in the Hybla Valley area. Police: Man Robbed by Two Men Brandishing a Gun in Mount Vernon

The following items are from the recent daily activity report from the Mount Vernon Police District of the Fairfax County Police Department. ROBBERY, Fielding Street/Havenwood Place, 4/22/13, 10:20 p.m. A 24-year-old reported he was sitting in a vehicle when two men approached. One suspect brandished a handgun and demanded money. They fled with the victim’s wallet. The victim was not injured. The suspects were described as black men, 20-25 years old, approximately 6 feet tall and skinny. They were wearing black clothing.
