Supervisor Jeff McKay, Other Members Ask Deputy County Executive to Address Domestic Violence and Housing

Chairman Sharon Bulova and Supervisor Cathy Hudgins joined McKay on this matter to ask for a response to the Commission of Women's recommendations.

During Tuesday's Board of Supervisor's meeting, the board passed Supervisors Jeff McKay and Cathy Hudgins and Chairman Sharon Bulova's joint matter to review and respond to the Commission of Women's (CFW) recent recommendations on domestic violence and housing in Fairfax County. According to the written matter, CFW has been developing the recommendations on how to increase safe, affordable housing options for domestic violence victims in the county since 2010. In doing so, CFW has heard from a number of organizations including non-profits, faith-based and government groups that help domestic violence with their housing needs. Patrick Moran, Congressman's Son, Pleads Guilty in Domestic Violence Case

Moran's girlfriend releases statement calling police report 'inaccurate,' saying that she fell.

Patrick Moran, the son of longtime Democratic congressman Jim Moran, pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to simple assault stemming from a domestic violence incident earlier this month in Washington. Moran, 23, who lives on South Randolph Street in Arlington, also remains under investigation by state and local authorities thanks to a video that surfaced before the November election in which he appears to give advice on how to skirt voter identification laws. Women's Group of Mount Vernon to Host Grand Day Celebration

The community event is in its seventh year.

The Women’s Group of Mount Vernon is hosting a Grand Day ceremony Saturday to celebrate domestic violence survivors and tribute to those who lost their lives. “Grand Day is an opportunity for people to heal, be encouraged, to feel inspired and be strengthened," Women's Group co-founder and survivor of domestic violence Mattie Palmore said in a release. “Participants will leave this conference emerging as butterflies, knowing they are on the edge of greatness.” Keynote speaker and domestic violence survivor Donna Marzigiliano, will share her story during the event. Support Victims of Domestic Violence Saturday at 'K-9 Krawl'

Fairfax County Police Department's Victim Services Section sponsors annual event.

So far in 2012, there have been 1,796 people charged with assault against a family member in Fairfax County, according to a news release from the Fairfax County Police. To help victims of domestic violence, Fairfax County Police Department's Victim Services Section created the Annual K-9 Krawl 5K, which takes place at the Fairfax County Government Center.
