Belle Haven Marina Makes the Most of Fall
Sailors take advantage of September's calm weather
Even though Labor Day—and the official end of summer—has come and gone, Belle Haven Marina is still open. Today's crisp weather enticed sailors, fishermen and kayakers to fill the water around the marina and take advantage of some of the last fair weather of the season. "Of course you can sail in the winter," sailor Garret Branche said. "It's just cold and the wind is numbing. Wearing gloves, you get all clumsy and slow." While the National Parks Service owns the marina, Belle Haven Marina Inc. runs the facility. They offer sailing classes for all levels of experience, feature a launching ramp and wet and dry storage.
