The following items are from the recent daily activity report from the Mount Vernon Police District of the Fairfax County Police Department. Larceny/Assault (red on map), 5:10 p.m., May 4, 2900 block of Arlington Drive, The 31-year-old victim reported she saw a man reach into her vehicle and take her purse. Her husband chased the suspect and was allegedly struck. The victims were not injured. Theodore Smalley, 60, of no fixed address, was charged with grand larceny and assault. Fire and rescue received the call around 6 a.m. Thursday.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to a fire at a residence located at 7919 Candlewood Dr. in Fort Hunt around 6 a.m. Thursday. An occupant of the home made the call at about 6:02 a.m., and the first fire truck arrived at the scene at 6:09 a.m., said Captain William Moreland. When firefighters arrived at the home, they observed smoke coming from the residence, but no fire as it had already burned out. The fire department has determined that the incident was due to an appliance fire. No injuries were reported at the time of the incident. Mount Vernon District Station Larceny/Assault A 60-year-old man was charged with grand larceny and assault after Fairfax County police said he was caught trying to steal a woman’s purse. The incident took place at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday on the 2900 block of Arlington Drive in the Hybla Valley area. Police said a woman reported seeing a man reach into her car and take her purse. Her husband chased the robber and was struck, according to police. Theodore Smalley, who has no fixed address, was charged with grand larceny and assault. DWI patrol will be busy in Fairfax County for Cinco de Mayo.
With multiple festivals, parties and events such as the Kentucky Derby and Cinco de Mayo celebrations scheduled throughout the weekend, the Fairfax County Police Department will be busy on DWI patrol in the county. PIO Lucy Caldwell said in an email to Patch that it's likely many people will include alcohol in their celebrations this weekend. "We strongly encourage revelers not to drink and drive and to assign a non-drinking person to be the designated driver," she said. A DWI checkpoint is scheduled for the Sully Police District Friday night and another checkpoint will take place in the McLean Police District on Saturday night. Mount Vernon District Station Burglary An audible alarm called police to a Mount Vernon home. The alarm went off at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday on the 3600 block of Becherer Road, police said. Officers responded and found the rear door forced open. A resident confirmed nothing was stolen. Burglary A resident reported someone had forced their way into a home through a front door, but nothing was stolen, according to police. Crimes reported to the Mount Vernon District Station in Fairfax County.
Burglary A 25-year-old woman was charged with entering a dwelling at night, two counts of vehicle trespass, and being drunk in public. Christina Tucker, of Woodbridge, was charged in the incident. According to police, a homeowner called police saying someone entered their home at 3:35 a.m. Tuesday on the 3300 block of Memorial Street near the Groveton area. Police arrived and though nothing had been stolen from inside the home, they found a woman sitting in the yard, according to police. Larcenies:

The following incidents were reported in the Mount Vernon District Police Station. Police arrested three for drunken driving on Friday as officers from the Mount Vernon Police District patrolled the area for intoxicated drivers. Three were charged with driving while intoxicated, twenty five summonses, and 29 warnings were issued, according to the Fairfax County Police Department. Robbery A 32-year-old reported that he was walking and counting his money when an unknown man snatched the cash and fled, according to police. The incident took place at 7:25 p.m. on Saturday on the 3100 block of Lockheed Boulevard in the Hybla Valley area.
