Poll: Is .05 Too Drunk to Drive?

The National Transportation Safety Board has recommended lowering the legal blood alcohol content limit to 0.05 from 0.08. Tell us: Would you support a lower BAC? Do you think it would curb drunk driving?

Having a few drinks at that summer barbecue? You may soon have to be even more careful before getting behind the wheel. This week, the National Transportation Safety Board voted on a recommendation that would lower the legal limit for drivers' blood alcohol level to 0.05, arguing it would significantly reduce the drunk driving-related deaths reported each year. In Virginia and DC, along with all other states, the legal limit is now 0.08 — the equivalent, for a 180 pound man, of around four 12 oz beers in an hour, according to this blood alcohol content (BAC) calculator. A limit of 0.05 would hold a 180 pound man to fewer than three beers an hour before he gets behind the wheel; a 140 pound woman would be just over the limit after consuming…

"That's why the Washington Post called him a "Washington insider and a Virginia outsider." So for Virginians who think Washington works well, they have a candidate in this race. And the Virginians who don't think Washington works well, also have a candidate in this race." Just about says it all about McAuliffe.   more ›

VA GOP Nominates Ken Cuccinelli for Governor's Race

Cuccinelli formally received the nomination Saturday at the Virginia Republican Convention.

Virginia Republican Party delegates officially nominated Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli to run for governor at its state convention Saturday in Richmond. Cuccinelli, 44, essentially locked down the Republican nomination in November 2012, when outgoing Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling announced he wouldn’t be seeking the nomination. Bolling cited party officials’ vote to change the nominating method from a primary election to a convention as the main reason for withdrawing his hat. "I see a Commonwealth where our people once again lead in liberty and opportunity," Cuccinelli said in his address. "Where striving to achieve is respected, even when we fall short, and it’s celebrated when we succeed. I see a Commonwealth where we restrain our debt so we …

Thompson said he had a few ideas on how to ask Amico but they were quite expensive. The "prom-posal" was the first time he had ever ridden a horse. She said yes, by the way. In other animal news, check out this sweet story from…

Not surprising at all, since Bolling is such a milk toast, moderate, party first hack, and Ken Cuccinelli is an ultra conservative who is willing to buck the party and its leadership when its wrong.   more ›

Board of Supervisors Approves Funding for Station Logistic Technicians

The eight FCPD positions have not been cut to four in county budget cuts.

The station logistic technician (SLT) position has not been cut in FCPD county budget cuts. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recently approved fully funding all eight positions instead of eliminating four of the positions, said Captain Randy Joyce — commander of the Mount Vernon District Police Station — at the recent Citizen Advisory Committee meeting. One SLT is assigned to each of the eight district police stations. Because of budget cuts, the county was considering cutting it down to four SLTs for Fairfax County. SLTs are responsible for equipment and supplies inventory, maintaining police cruisers (average of 16 cars per week taken to and from the county garage for maintenance and repairs) and other duties around the district …
