Concerts, Evolution Home Opening and the Arlington County Fair

Events in Alexandria to keep you busy this weekend.

As always, there's plenty to do with your weekend in NoVa if you're not planning to spend it relaxing at home. Here are some local events in Virginia and D.C. to help you pass the time.

  • Free Concerts: Choose from an assortment of musical styles including: Washington Balalaika Orchestra (Russian) at Lake Accotink Park; The David Kitchen Band (pop/rock) at Royal Lake Park; The Winstons (Motown) at Grist Mill Park; and Caravan of Thieves (Gypsy swing) atMason District Park. Bring a picnic, blankets and/or lawn chairs; flashlights also recommended as some parks are not lighted. Concerts are 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Free. If there’s a threat of bad weather, call 703-324-SHOW (7469) one hour prior to the start of the concert for updates.
  • Friday Affair Market at Historic Hollin Hall. Relax on Friday afternoons at historic Hollin Hall and pick up some baked goods, treats, flowers or crafts from local vendors. Enjoy a stroll in the peaceful gardens of the Hollin Hall mansion.
  • Evolution Home Opening. The lime green building on Richmond Highway will officially open Saturday. Evolution Home — a vintage, antique and consignment home furnishings store — will have its grand opening on Saturday and Sunday.
  • The 2013 Arlington County Fair opened Wednesday, with outdoor rides, food vendors and piglet races the main draws on its first night. The fair is held at and around the Thomas Jefferson Community Center at 3501 Second St. S. and runs through Sunday.
