Pumpkin Patches, Candidate Meet and Greet and Help the Homeless

Here's what's going on this week in NoVa.

It's the first full week of October. Get out and enjoy the nice fall weather NoVa has been experiencing and check out some cool events going on in the area. You also may want to check out Patch's Halloween 2013 Guide to find pumpkin patches, haunted houses, corn mazes and more in the region.

Monday, Oct. 7
Virginia Hills Baptist Church will hold a Pumpkin Patch throughout October benefiting a variety of missions of the church.  Pumpkin Patch hours are 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. VHBC is located at 6507 Telegraph Rd.

Tuesday, Oct. 8
Qualified candidates for Sheriff and State Delegates for Districts 39, 43, and 44 are invited along with Alexandria residents for a meet and greet at the Franconia Government Center located at 6121 Franconia Rd. Meet the candidates  from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A second event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Sherwood Regional Library located at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane. The event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area and the Lee District Association of Civic Organizations. Wednesday, Oct. 9
The first public meeting to discuss the transportation study on Route 1 is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the South County Government Center in Alexandria. The government center is located at 8350 Richmond Hwy.

Thursday, Oct. 10
United Community Ministiries annual Help the Homeless Campaign — UCM's biggest community fundraising event of the year — is happening now! Find out how to register and make a difference.

Friday, Oct. 11
You still have time! Stop by your local farmers markets before the end of October. The Kingstowne Farmers Market will be open in the Giant parking lot from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Friday until Oct. 25. Find out how long your local market will be open this year.
