Concert in the Park, School Supply Distribution, Farmers Market and Sponsored Youth Haircuts

Here are a few events you should know about in the area for the week of Aug. 25.

It's the last week of August, so go out with a bang. Here are some events you should know about this week in and around Kingstowne.

Concert at Lee District Park. 
Enjoy one of the last free summer concerts in the park before summer is officially over. The Sock Monkeys are scheduled to perform at Lee District Park at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Concerts at Lee District Park Amphitheater are cancelled when raining. If there’s a threat of inclement weather, call 703-324-SHOW(7469) after 6 p.m. for updates.

Sponsored Youth Haircuts. Fairfax County firefighters will sponsor youth haircuts for county students who are on free or reduced lunch plans in anticipation for the upcoming school year. Haircuts will be provided in different locations in Fairfax County: Reston Community Center, Gums Springs Community Center and Charles Houston Recreation Center.

Backpacks/School Supplies Distribution. The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department will distribute backpacks and other school supply starting at 11 a.m. Thursday at Penn Daw Station 11 located at 6624 Hulvey Terrace in Alexandria.

Mount Vernon Farmers Market. Stop by the farmers market Wednesday to buy your local produce and goods. The Mount Vernon Farmers Market is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Wednesday at Sherwood Regional Library.

Save the Date: 38th Annual International Festival.  Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Mount Vernon will have its annual International Festival on Labor Day. Mark your calendars and join in on fun, food, music and other activities.
