'Black Widow' Sonya Thomas Wins 2013 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest

Sonya Thomas, "The Black Widow," ate 36-and-three-quarters franks in 10 minutes to win the 2013 Nathan's Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island on the Fourth of July.
Thomas had close competition this year—Juliet Lee ate 36 hot dogs in the event.
Thomas lives in the Alexandria area.
According to Thomas' online bio, she chose the name "The Black Widow" because "like the female black widow spider, it is my desire to eliminate the males. In competitive eating I want to eat more or faster than the men. I want to make boys out of them."
On the men's side, Joey Chestnut won his seventh consecutive Nathan's Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest, downing 69 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.
