Meet Me at the Library!

How many meetings would you guess we host at Sherwood Regional Library?  Our first floor meeting room has a capacity of 214 people. Our three second floor conference rooms average a 12 person capacity. We can estimate that we host about 800 meetings a year for homeowner associations, study teams, scout troops, and other non-profit groups. For further information about booking meeting space, look here: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/meetingrooms/

There are meetings here in Mount Vernon that aren’t held at Sherwood, but for which we have material for citizens to review. Currently, we have a large document entitled Plan and Profile of US Route One Improvements at Fort Belvoir from Pohick Road to Mount Vernon Memorial Highway. You may have seen newspaper advertisements about the hearing to be held on September 11 at the South County Government Center from 6 until 9 pm. Sherwood Regional has a collection of documents about Fort Belvoir and Richmond Highway (Route One).  The Virginia Room, at the City of Fairfax Regional Library, http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches/vr/ may be able to help you with historical questions.

Libraries are all about information. Sharing that information, such as proposed county budgets, soccer registration forms, and free local newspapers, provides our neighbors current, accurate, actionable data to help connect them with local organizations that enrich the fabric of our community. Whether our neighbors sit next to us in a planning meeting at the library, or whether a community of interest comes together in an online forum, we can help locate the materials that make the members of the groups more effective and successful. Let us know how we can help.  http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches/sh/
