Free Digital Magazines, Courtesy of your Library

Thinking about dropping your print magazine subscriptions to go digital? Once again, your library is here to help! Learn how to download free digital magazines at a workshop at the Sherwood Regional Library on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m.

Fairfax County Public Library began offering digital magazines last year through a service called Zinio, thanks to funding from The Library of Virginia. Through the library’s web page, customers have unlimited simultaneous access to complete digital magazines, which can be downloaded and viewed on most Internet-enabled devices—such as tablets, smart phones and some e-readers—inside or outside of the library.

Zinio’s technology digitally recreates a magazine page for page, including full-color pictures, using intuitive navigation, key-word article search and interactive elements such as audio and video. The Economist; Newsweek; Forbes; Good Housekeeping; National Geographic; and O, The Oprah Magazine are just a few of the more than 50 popular titles available. There are no holds, no checkout periods, and no limit to the number of magazines you can download. You can download back issues of the magazines going back to mid-2013, when our Zinio subscription began. And, you may keep digital copies of magazines for as long as you wish! Pretty cool, huh?
