Your Library, Your Way

The library's new expanded hours start September 8! Sherwood will again be open on Monday and Wednesday mornings and Thursday evenings. This means more opportunities for visiting and volunteering!

It’s the place for you, it’s the place for me. It’s that local public community hub- the library!

We’re pleased to resume expanded hours on September 8. It will be great to regain our Monday and Wednesday mornings. Farmers' Market shoppers will again be able to combine library visits with grocery runs on Wednesday mornings. We will have more mornings available for preschool programs, and Thursday evenings available for those who are hmmm, post-school.

With the restored hours, we gain one additional staff position. That new staffer will work on Sundays, allowing us to re-open the Tech Lab (and second floor conference space) on Sundays. Hours on Sunday will remain the same, 1-5.

You might be wondering how we can restore these hours at Sherwood with only one new employee. Over the last few years, FCPL has moved toward self-service for our customers. Many now place holds themselves from home using their Internet service and library card, come to pick up their books, and check themselves out at our express terminals. Renewals can be made online from your library account http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/accountservices/, or by calling our Customer Account Library Line 703-324-9595. Those with bills can pay online using a credit card from their account page.

HOWEVER, Sherwood still needs, encourages and welcomes our neighbors to join us as volunteers. With your help, we can fill book requests faster, resolve customer questions more promptly, and more completely reflect the Mount Vernon community in our displays and programming. Our volunteers receive training, periodic updates, and lots of recognition. Along the way, those who meet benchmarks receive awards at the system or regional level. Please call Jackie Davis at 703-718-8222. Further information can be found at: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/volunteer/.
