To Fifty ... and Beyond!

The Sherwood Library celebrated its fortieth anniversary in style.

We celebrated our fortieth anniversary last month, and the staff of the Sherwood Regional library wishes to thank those who shared their talents with us on Sept 10 and Sept 17.

For our first weekend, we were serenaded by the Harmony Heritage Singers in the morning and by Rocknoceros for the little ones in the afternoon. On Saturday the 17th, we laughed with Gary Lloyd, our most excellent story teller, in the morning and enjoyed the Mount Vernon Dixieland Band and Swing Band outside in the Showmobile.

Those with a historical bent will be interested in reading the proclamations presented by Supervisor Gerry Hyland and Delegate Scott Surovell. We also had displays from our upstairs neighbor, Mount Vernon at Home, and the Gum Springs Historical Society whose museum started out here at the library.

What's past is prologue, of course. Stop by the library and leave a note on our message board, What the Sherwood Library means to Me! It's atop the DVD case by the check-out desk.

You can also use the board to suggest future directions that we will pass along to our Library Director, Sam Clay. As always, you can also send those thoughts to Branch Manager Denise Morgan at denise.morgan@fairfaxcounty.gov as well.
