¡Bienvenidos, Bienvenue (etc) to Sherwood Library!

The Sherwood Regional Library welcomes speakers of many languages. We welcome your suggestions of world language periodicals that reflect our community's diversity.

The explorer Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy. But when he wanted to fund his famous voyage, he followed the money and sailed for King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. Six hundred years later, speakers of many languages follow the money to Northern Virginia where they find opportunities for themselves and their children. You can help us welcome our newest neighbors.

Our Fairfax County Public Library branch provides reading materials in Spanish, Korean and Vietnamese. In addition, each branch may select magazines and newspapers to reflect community interests. Our Sherwood Regional Library subscribes to El Mundo, Hola and People en Espanol (Spanish); Paris Match (French); and Al-Ahram (Arabic).

As our budget for buying materials has been cut over the years, the total number of items purchased has diminished. Our library system always welcomes donations of cash for purchasing material. Donors may ask that their funds be used to purchase magazines and books that will be shared throughout the county. Also, those who shop through Amazon might be familiar with the library’s Wishlist located on the Fairfax Library Foundation website at http://www.fairfaxlibraryfoundation.org/donorinfo/amazon.htm

Sherwood, and all library branches, will soon select our list of newspapers and magazines for 2014. We welcome your suggestions of world language periodicals that reflect our community’s diversity. Contact Sherwood’s branch manager, Denise Morgan, at denise.morgan@fairfaxcounty.gov or 703-718-8208 for further information about donations and the materials selection process for our branches.
