Fairfax Station 'Women of Heart' Group Gives Back

The group held a fundraiser over the weekend for "Project Opportunity."

A Fairfax Station group held a fundraiser over the weekend to support a program for pregnant or parenting young women at Bryant Alternative High School.

“All of us felt that this was a great project,” said Andrea Ryhanych, who is involved with the Women of Heart of Fairfax Station. “Funding through Fairfax County is really tight this year and we thought we could help.”

The Women of Heart of Fairfax Station is a volunteer organization founded last year which works to give back to the community. A friend of the group told the Women of Heart about ’s “project opportunity” program. The organization was so impressed with the program that the Women of Heart took it under their wing, Ryhanych said.

Bryant High School's program aims to provide counseling, parenting classes, mentoring services and child care assistance to about 120 to 150 girls annually. The high school located in the Hybla Valley area and is operated by Fairfax County Public Schools.

The Saturday event raised about $5,000 for the cause, though the final tally of funds raised has not yet been calculated.
