Friday night, the West Potomac Wolverines went head-to-head with the Westfield Bulldogs at West Potomac High School and failed to score one touchdown. The Wolverines had a hard time keeping possession of the ball while the Bulldogs practically lived in the endzone.
By the end of the night, the final score was 49-0 in favor of Westfield.
Demornay Pierson-El was a big contributor to Friday night's game as he has been an essential asset to the Wolverines throughout the season. The wide receiver was a predominant carrier in Friday's game along with quarterback Caleb Williams, who often moved out of the pocket to push the play down the field.
Despite their efforts, the Wolverines didn’t make it to the endzone at all on Friday night with Williams throwing a mixture of incomplete and interception passes. Earlier in the week, West Potomac Head Coach Jeremiah Davis said the Bulldogs don’t make mistakes, and last night they proved him right.
“We made a lot of mistakes. They don’t make mistakes, and they scored every time they got the ball,” said Davis. “Our guys learned a lesson. You can’t just come out here and dilly-dally around with a stronger, more aggressive team.”
The Westfield Bulldogs — whose record is now 7-0 for the season — held their own throughout the game, putting into action what they prepared for all week: stopping Pierson-El. Besides stopping one of the Wolverines’ key players, the Bulldogs played a simple game of football, which worked in their favor in the end.
“I thought stopping No. 5 was the key to our success. Defense did a good job, and I’m proud of them,” said Bulldogs Head Coach Kyle Simmons. “We got a lot of young guys. This is game seven, and things are starting to gel a little bit for us.”
Throughout the game, the Bulldogs were able to move the ball up the field with strategy and ease. With running backs Tyler Thrasher-Walker, Brian Garland and Evan Gray constantly in the endzone and one successful field goal after another, the Bulldogs were unstoppable.
Next week, Westfield High School will go up against Oakton High School. West Potomac High School will have their homecoming game against W.T. Woodson High School.
