Stratford Landing to Host Rock 'n Run

Students, faculty and staff and parents are raising money to fund classroom supplies and other educational needs.

Stratford Landing Elementary School is raising money to help buy classroom supplies for students. The students will have a Rock 'n Run event at 9:15 a.m. Monday.

According to Tina Trumbo with Stratford Landing, the school PTA has raised funds through companies such as Innisbrook and the Boosterthon in the past. These companies would keep half of the profit. This year, the school's students, faculty and staff organized an event on their own to keep 100 percent of the profit to benefit the school's needs.

"Our schools are losing funding each year and our teachers consistently have to use their own money for items needed for their classroom. These are very basic things that they need such as rugs and pencil sharpeners," said Trumbo in a recent email.

The Rock 'n Run is a week long event where students solicit donations for their classrooms via cash/check and online donations. On Monday, Oct. 28, the students will run laps in celebration. So far, the students have raised more than $18,000. Their goal is $25,000.
