Update: Funeral For Stratford Landing Student Is On Monday

Local psychologists explained the death to students.

Update Sat. 11:53 a.m: A funeral will be held for Jackson Casey on Monday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at with a reception following in Wesley Hall.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association (FHYAA). Checks should specify that the money is for the Jackson Casey Memorial Fund.  The address is P.O. Box 6031, Alexandria, VA 22306.

Previous Story: Jackson Casey, a sixth grade student at , died unexpectedly last evening, according to an email sent to parents by Principal Maura Caulfield.  Jackson was in Ms. Edith Giffear’s classroom.

Caulfield says that a crisis team of area psychologists and social workers from local elementary schools helped classroom teachers inform students about the death. Members of the team will continue to be available throughout today and the next several days.

Caulfied said she wasn’t aware of funeral arrangements, but would share them with the school community once that information became available.

"Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends during this difficult time," said Caulfied. “Jackson was a child who warmed the heart of everyone who knew him and he will be missed by us all.”
