Stratford Landing Celebrates Successful Fundraiser with Rock 'n Run

PTA, students raise almost $40,000 for classroom supplies.

The students, faculty and staff and parents of Stratford Elementary School celebrated a successful fundraiser after the students and PTA raised almost $40,000 for classroom supplies.

In celebration of exceeding their $25,000 fundraising goal, the school hosted a Rock 'n Run Monday where students listened to music, ran laps and cheered on their classmates.

PTA President Sara Jefferies said in past years, the school has hired outside companies to help with fundraising. However, the school would only receive 50 percent of the funds.

"We looked at our resources and the budget cuts in the county, got a committee together and decided we can do this ourselves," Jefferies said.

The money the students, faculty and staff and parents raised will go toward classrooms supplies. Jefferies said the teachers are happy with the success of the fundraiser because they won't have to spend money out of their own pockets.

Stratford Landing teachers made a priorities list, so the funds will go to purchasing those items first. Students have also decided to use the funds to add books to their individual classroom libraries, buy supplies for classroom science experiments and purchasing class pets.

The school will continue to accept online donations through Oct. 31.
