Hollin Meadows Hosts Real Food for Kids Food Day

The celebration took place at the school Monday afternoon.

Hollin Meados Elementary School had its Food Day celebration Monday afternoon to celebrate real food for children in their schools. According to speakers during the event, children receive half of their daily calorie intake during school hours, and it's important for students to have nutritious options during school days.

Students, parents, faculty and staff learned from local celebrity chefs about delicious, nutritious kid-friendly fare. National Food Day founder, Michael Jacobson, and Chef Cathal Armstrong of Restaurant Eve were also available during the celebration from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the school. The event also included obstacle courses and a sack race for children.

The Food Day celebration was a Real Food for Kids outreach event organized to demonstrate the need for more fresh food in Fairfax County schools.

Hollin Meadows' Food Day was sponsored by multiple local businesses including Whole Foods, Sampson Foundation, Chipotle, Honest Tea, Fairfax County Federation of Teachers, Keany Produce, Co., Arcadia, FitKids, SweetGreen and Noodles & Company.
