Wayfinding Signs Along Route 1: Readers React

What do you think of the new signs for Richmond Highway's commercial areas?

Patch Associate Regional Editor Greg Hambrick wrote the following article.

The first phase of the Wayfinding Signage along Richmond Highway is complete and readers had a lot to say about it following our article last week.

The first sign marked the Mount Zephyr commercial area. Other signs that are now completed include North Gateway, Penn Daw, Groveton and Hybla Valley. Phase II of the project will include seven additional signs that will direct drivers to different historical areas and landmarks in the Alexandria area.
"Seems kind of pointless," commented reader "MSandyDogg." "They don't seem to be neighborhoods, but rather just stretches of Route 1. As far as I know, no business or other entity uses these designations."

Cathy wrote, "They are pretty, but all the people I know who live here and navigate around this area take side streets and spend as little time on Route 1 as possible!"

Reader "Tourlestrane" is ready for uniformity: "Route 1 needs to improve its look and feel but it won't feel more upscale if all signs are not in sync."

And Jed wrote on Facebook that he doesn't see the value in it. "It's done now, so I'll be glad they are there," he wrote. "But I will certainly hope that the county doesn't spend any more of my tax dollars on things like that."
