Supervisor Hyland Announces Intent To Run for Re-Election

Mount Vernon District Supervisor Hyland makes pivotal announcement at his 24th Annual Town Hall Meeting

When Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerry Hyland announced his plans to seek re-election, he was met with a standing ovation from attendees at today’s Mount Vernon District Town Hall Meeting at Mount Vernon High School.

Supervisor Hyland, who has served for over two decades, said, “Twenty-four, actually, twenty-three years ago I asked the community of Mount Vernon to grant me the right and privilege to serve on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors…Together, we have established Mount Vernon’s priorities and accomplished much.”

Supervisor Hyland has hosted district-wide Town Hall meetings for 24 years, and noted that it was “part of [his] commitment.” This year’s town hall featured speakers such as Cong. Jim Moran (D-Va.), Cong. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova, and Fort Belvoir Garrison Commander Col. John Strycula. Attendees listened to a budget overview from Fairfax County Executive Tony Griffin.

The chairs of each of the Mount Vernon District Visioning Task Force committees also gave presentations of what they felt should be top priorities for the district to focus on. Supervisor Hyland created the Task Force to gain a better understanding of how residents want to see the district grow in the next 25 years.
