Barack Obama re-elected and local election results. Here's a quick review of last week's top news in Fairfax County.

With all Virginia precincts finally reporting, President Barack Obama received 1,868,191 votes from Virginia voters, according to final but unofficial data from the Virginia State Board of Elections. That's 50.57 percent of the vote. 

Gov. Mitt Romney received 1,767,692 votes, or 47.85 percent. The three third-party candidates on the ballot received a combined 1.42 percent of votes, and write-in candidates the remainder.

Stormwater Improvements Bond Passes

Fairfax County voters passed the $30 million stormwater bond referendum that will pay to build a levee and pumping station to protect the Huntington neighborhood from flooding.

Less than two weeks ago, residents in Huntington were evacuated as Hurricane (later turned Superstorm Sandy) blew over the region.

Congressman Moran Wins 12thTerm in U.S. House

Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Moran secured another term in office, soundly defeating Patrick Murray, Jason Howell and Janet Murphy in the 8th Congressional District. 

"Tonight was a vindication of the President's efforts to get our country back on track after the worst recession in our nation's history," Moran said in a statement released late Tuesday night. "Tim Kaine will be our next Senator, a good, decent man who will serve the commonwealth with great distinction. Our nation faces major challenges that demand solutions. We owe it to the American people to come together and work toward reaching the kind of compromise necessary to get the country again moving forward."

Allen Concedes; Kaine Wins Senate Race in Virginia

The U.S. Senate race in Virginia lived up to its reputation going into Tuesday's election, as being a tight race between two former governors.

Final unofficial results around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday showed Tim Kaine with 51.89 percent of the state vote to Republican challenger George Allen's 47.92 percent of the vote across Virginia.

Two More Attacks; Police Still Searching for Fondling

Two women reported they were fondled in the Springfield area last Thursday, Nov. 1, according to Fairfax County Police officials.

The women are the eighth and ninth to be attacked by a man who is allegedly fondling women across the Springfield, Franconia and Falls Church area. One woman on Thursday was in the 7200 block of Commerce Street. The other was on Hibbling Avenue, where an earlier incident occurred, WTOP reported.

Menchie's Frozen Yogurt Opens Next Week

Menchie's self-serve frozen yogurt will open its new location in the Pinecrest Shopping Center on Thursday, Nov. 15.

To celebrate its grand opening, the store will have several events and deals for customers, according to manager Leigh Miller. A ribbon cutting featuring the store’s mascot Menchie is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, but Menchie’s official grand opening week activities won’t kick off until the following week.

Symphonic Band & Percussion Ensemble Concert

The GMU Symphonic Band & Percussion Ensemble will hold a concert Monday, Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. at the Center for the Arts Concert Hall. Admission for adults is $10 and $5 for students and seniors.

Live Music Saturdays at Paradise Springs Winery

Each Saturday afternoon the Paradis Springs Winery has a live performance from a local artist. Artists include acoustic acts, pianists, jazz bands, banjos or other various forms. Music each day is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. unless otherwise specified on the website.
