Kaine, Allen Neck-and-Neck in Fundraising

Patch takes a look at campaign finance numbers.

The U.S. Senate race between Tim Kaine (D) and George Allen (R) is neck-and-neck both in the polls and in campaign funds raised from Virginia residents.

During the most recent filing period, which ran from May 24 to June 30, Kaine raised $667,000 in donations of $200 or more from Virginians, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, which compiles its data from OpenSecrets.org.

Allen raised less, with $409,000, according to the data.

Allen substantially outraised Kaine in donations of $200 or more from Fort Hunt-area ZIP codes. Residents in the area donated almost $45,000 to Allen’s campaign, compared to $27,650 to Kaine’s.

Donors in the 22308 and 22306 ZIP codes gave $42,200 and $2,750 to Allen, respectively.

Kaine raised $41,575 and $12,563 from the 22308 and 22306 ZIP codes, respectively.

In overall fundraising, Kaine is hanging onto a narrow lead with $3.6 million compared to Allen’s $3.5 million in Virginia, in donations of $200 or more from Virginians.
