Fort Hunt Residents Donate $54,000 to Presidential Campaigns

Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign has received about $20,000.

Fort Hunt area residents have contributed about $54,100 to presidential campaigns during the 2012 election cycle.

Residents in the 22306 ZIP code have donated a total of about $12,500 to various campaigns. Residents in the 22308 ZIP code have donated about $41,500.

As of Feb. 21, 2012, former Gov. Mitt Romney’s campaign has received the most money from area community members, with a total of almost $20,000, according to information at Opensecrets.org.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich’s campaign had the second-highest amount in contributions, with about $13,000 from Fort Hunt area ZIP codes.

President Barack Obama’s campaign has raised about $9,000 from Fort Hunt residents.

The campaigns to elect U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), and Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum received less than $8,000 each.

Across Fairfax County

Fairfax County residents in Patch's coverage area have donated a total of more than $1.2 million to presidential campaigns.

More than half of those dollars have gone to Romney’s campaign, which has gained a total of more than $780,000 from Fairfax County residents. Obama has received the second-highest number of donations, with more than $620,000.

Gingrich has received more than $75,000 from county residents, while Santorum and Paul have collected less than $30,000 each.

The Virginia Republican Presidential Primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 6, but .
