Contract Awarded for Phase I of Huntington Levee Design

Contract for phase I of the Huntington Levee design awarded to ARCADIS.

Fairfax County recently awarded the contract for phase I of the Huntington Levee design to ARCADIS, according to a recent news release.

ARCADIS is an international company that provides consulting, design, engineering and management services in the fields of infrastructure, water, environment and buildings.

This is one of many major steps for the design and development of the 2,800-foot-long levee and pump station that will help protect the homes and other property in the Huntington neighborhood from flooding.

According to the news release, phase I of the project will include data collection, the completion of a site study and the development of a conceptual design for the levee. This initial phase of the project is expected to run through January 2014.

More from the news release:

"Survey crews from the county’s consulting firm William H. Gordon Associates will begin gathering essential survey data from the Huntington neighborhood after July 1. Crews will be performing minimally disruptive tasks such as marking utilities with flags and paint and setting large nails in specific locations for measuring horizontal and vertical geometry. These measurements are necessary to develop the project design for the levee.

Based on the initial concept provided by the US Army Corps of Engineers, this complex project is anticipated to take three to five years to design, with an additional two years for construction. The project will require review by local, state and federal agencies."
