Wednesday House Fire Damages Estimated at $60K

The fire started in a bedroom of the home.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue estimates the damages of a recent house fire in Mount Vernon at about $60,000, according to a recent news release. Firefighters responded to a call of a house fire at 8019 Seaton Drive in the Sherwood Crossing residential area Wednesday night.

The fire department received the call at about 7:48 p.m. and arrived four minutes later. When firefighters arrived, they observed heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the ranch-style, single family home. Firefighters performed an aggressive fire attack to keep the fire from spreading to the attic of the home and were able to get the fire under control.

According to the news release, the occupants of the home were outside barbequing when the fire started and they were alerted by a sounding smoke alarm. On the night of the fire, Fire and Rescue that four adults were displaced by the fire, but there are actually five adults who have been displaced.

There were no injuries during the incident, and Red Cross is supporting the displaced occupants. Fire investigators say the fire started in one of the bedrooms. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
