Victim Of Two-Alarm Alexandria Townhouse Fire Identified

The death of a 68-year-old man is the seventh fire fatality in Fairfax County this year.

The victim of a Nov. 7 fire has been identified as Kirkland Stewart, 68, of Alexandria, according to the Fairfax Country medical examiner.

Fire investigators continue to investigate the cause of the blaze, which left the townhouse at 6902 Deer Run Drive a total loss, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

When units arrived, firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the front, side and rear of the home. Firefighters requested a second alarm because of the large volume of fire, officials said. More than 50 department personnel were on the scene after the second alarm was requested.

In a little less than an hour, firefighters were able to get the fire under control after conducting an aggressive fire attack. The home was a total loss, and no other injuries were reported, according to the fire department.

Kirkland's death brings the number of fire fatalities in Fairfax County to seven for the year.
