Police Make Arrests in Church Burglary

Burglars broke into Aldersgate United Methodist Church May 19. The following arrest information was supplied by the Fairfax County police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Fairfax County police have arrested a woman and charged an accomplice in connection with a the night of May 19 at .

Tatyana Shields, 18, of 1900 Rampart Drive was arrested around 1 p.m. Tuesday at her home. She was charged with one count of burglary.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Edward Hetzel, 18 of Wildwood, N.J., on charges of burglary, grand larceny and destruction of property. Hetzel is currently being held in New Jersey on charges of burglary and theft there.

Officers responded to the burglary at the church, located at 1307 Collingwood Road, upon report of an overnight burglary. They found the burglars had entered the church, forced open several interior doors, damaged property and stole some items.

Detectives from the Mount Vernon District Station’s criminal investigations section followed up on the case and received tips in their investigation, according to the police department.
