Police Chase: Local Residents Weigh In via Social Media

Residents watch as police chase cab from Old Town into Belle Haven after taxi driver reportedly struck police officer in Old Town.

A high-speed police chase from Old Town Alexandria into Belle Haven in the middle of the day Wednesday didn't go unnoticed by area residents.

Here's what they had to say via social media, on Greater Alexandria Patch's Facebook page:

Sarah, on Facebook, said: "Coming out of the Hollin Hall Pastry shop we saw five police cars tearing north down Fort Hunt Road.....then traveling in their direction I was stopped by a roadblock of at least 15 police cars...and there were more coming from the opposite direction. Is this show of force really necessary??!"

Temple, also on Facebook, wrote: "They FLEW down Sherwood Hall at the same time with strange sirens, ones I haven't heard before."

Beth, on Facebook, wrote: "30ish police vehicles flying down ft hunt. It was scary!"

Fairfax County Police updated on Twitter: "Fort Hunt Road will reportedly remain closed between Bellview Blvd. and Wake Forest Dr. for at least the next couple of hours for..."

After it was reported that an Alexandria police officer was shot and is in critical condition Wednesday evening:
