Andrea Crew, the 31-year-old Alexandria mother of two discovered floating on the Occoquan River on Saturday, was strangled to death, according to the Fairfax County Medical Examiner's office.
Her husband, 25-year-old Caleb Crew, has been charged with murder in her death.
"The cause of death was asphyxia due to strangulation, and the manner is homicide," said Rebecca Wood, a Fairfax County death investigator.
The Medical Examiner's office did not release the exact date or other details concerning Andrea Crew's death.
Caleb Crew was arrested at the Mount Vernon District Station, was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was served with a warrant charging him with murder, the police department said in a news release.
Andrea Crew was last seen near a bank in the 5500 clock of Cherokee Ave. on Aug. 7, and was reported missing the following day.
