Man Robs Fort Hunt Pharmacy

No injuries were reported.

Fairfax County police are searching for a man who robbed a Fort Hunt pharmacy of prescription medications shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday.

The robbery occurred at Rite Aid, 7968 Fort Hunt Road, in the Hollin Hall Shopping Center. No one was injured.

Police said the man entered the store and handed a clerk a threatening note demanding prescription medications, including Dilaudid, a powerful painkiller. The clerk complied and handed over the medications, and the man ran from the store. He did not display a weapon.

Police officers, a police helicopter and police dogs were used to help locate the man, who was not apprehended.

Pain medications are among the medications most commonly stolen from pharmacies, said police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell.

“It was all the usual suspects,” she said.

Police described the robber as a white man between ages 18 and 25, about 6 feet tall and slim, at 140 to 150 pounds. At the time of the incident he was wearing a white ball cap, a gray sweatshirt with a large black or blue symbol on the front, dark sunglasses, blue jeans and white shoes.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to call the Fairfax County Police Department TIPS line at (866) 411-TIPS (8477).

Just as banks have "dummy" cash that is used for robberies, so pharmacies should have on hand dummy drugs that look like the popularly robbed drugs but which are nothing but sugar.
