If the Lee District Democrats crowd at King Street Blues in Kingstowne was any indication, Northern Virginia Democrats wanted President Barack Obama to go on the attack Wednesday night during the first presidential debate. What they got instead was a relatively calm commander-in-chief — one who took the occasional shot at his Republican rival, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — not the inspirational orator whose speeches draw thousands to arenas.

Friends of Missing Teen Say 'Bryan Did Not Just Walk Away'

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children lists 17-year-old Woodson High School student Bryan Glenn as an endangered runaway, but family and friends are adamant that it's not true. They fear something happened to Bryan to make him just disappear.

"I am 100 percent sure that Bryan did not just walk away from his close-knit family," said Julia Ross, a SAT prep/college coach who worked with Bryan and his brother up to three times a week for the past few months.

Police Release Sketch of Springfield 'Fondling' Suspect

Police have released a sketch of a suspect who has grabbed women (mostly teens) and fondled them in the Springfield area in incidents that began Sept. 7. The latest incident occurred Tuesday. Police are investigating whether the incidents might be linked.

A fifth victim, a 40-year-old woman, has now come forward — Fairfax County Police detectives say the fondling incident took place on Wednesday, Sept. 19, also in Springfield.

Retrial Delayed and New Charges Filed Against Justin Wolfe

The re-trial of Justin Michael Wolfe, whose previous conviction related to the murder of Daniel Robert Petrole Jr. was vacated by the federal courts, has been delayed. Additional charges have been filed against the former Chantilly High School student.

While the trial—initially set for Oct. 15—has been delayed, the judge did not set a new date. The new charges include first-degree murder, capital murder, two counts of drug distribution, and two charges of using a firearm in commission of a felony, according to Prince William County court records.

Westfield Marching Bulldog Band Heads to Tournament of Roses Parade

Adding to a long list of accolades, the Westfield Marching Band in Chantilly has won a coveted slot in the 2014 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif., the first Fairfax County band to be selected in the 125-year history of the parade.

St. Aidan’s to Open Outdoor Labyrinth to Public

The St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church will hold an introductory workshop to its newly opened outdoor walking labyrinth. The event will start at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7.

The St Aidan’s Labyrinth was dedicated in September. The labyrinth was built by a local Boy Scout who was working for his Eagle requirements.

Mount Vernon High School to Host Fall Fest and Bazaar

Mount Vernon High School will host its second annual Fall Fest and Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The festival and bazaar will include arts and crafts vendors. Community groups will also participate in the festival. A rummage sale will take place and student groups will participate by showcasing their work.
