Citizens Police Academy Now Recruiting for Attendees

Deadline is June 30.

Looking for a way to get involved in your community or see what happens behind the scenes of law enforcement? The Fairfax County Police Department is now accepting applications for its fall Citizens Police Academy, which will be held Sept. 13 to Nov. 17.

The academy is designed to provide members of the public with a unique glimpse behind the badge. Participants will learn about the breadth of resources involved in preventing and solving crime and the daily challenges faced by police officers.

Classes will be held on 10 consecutive Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 10:00 p.m. at various police facilities throughout the county. Graduation will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at the firearms range and Emergency Vehicle Operations Center in Chantilly.

All classes will be taught in English. The program is offered free of charge. Applicants are required to live or work in Fairfax County, be at least 18 old and provide their own transportation to and from training. Acceptance is subject to review of applicant’s criminal record and police contact history. Only two class absences are permitted.
