Businesses Targeted by Burglars

The following arrest information was supplied by the Fairfax County police department. Where charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Two commercial burglaries occurred in the Mount Vernon District in the week ending May 9.

The first was reported at 7:02 a.m. May 3 from 7940 Richmond Highway in the Hybla Valley area. According to police, an employee of Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. discovered the office trailer burglarized with entry made through a window in the door. Computer equipment and a camera were taken.

A second burglary was reported at 5:30 a.m. May 6 at 6138 North Kings Highway (which is just north of the intersection with Richmond Highway). An employee of arrived to work and discovered the glass of the front door smashed out. It appears the burglary occurred during the overnight hours. Numerous cartons of Newport 100 cigarettes, valued at more than $3,400, were stolen.

In separate and unrelated incidents:

  • A Dodge Ram truck was reported stolen from the 1700 block of Chili Street.
  • A 1999 Toyota Camry was reported stolen from 8100 Fort Hunt Road.
  • A Yamaha scooter was reported stolen from the 7500 block of Snowpea Court.
