VOICE Community Meeting

WHAT: A 300-person public action organized by VOICE and the Rt 1/Mt Vernon community leaders where public officials will be called on to commit to partnering with VOICE congregations and allies to invest in youth recreation facilities and fix gaps in transportation and outreach that prevent youth from participating in high-quality afterschool activities.  VOICE will challenge public officials to allocate a portion of the impending 2012 $75 million Fairfax Park Bond to help fund synthetic turf fields at West Potomac & Mount Vernon high schools and to organize a public-private partnership to create an open recreation field near Audubon; to improve grassy fields at local parks; to make changes to Fairfax County Connector service to help Sandburg Middle School students get home afterschool; and to support building robust afterschool programs for elementary school youth.
