VDOT Suspends Most Road Work For Memorial Day Weekend

Motorists should still expect delays and closures on certain routes

While roads are already jammed with traffic for the holiday weekend, there's at least one source of relief for Virginia motorists: construction work zones and lane closures will largely be suspended throughout Memorial Day weekend to accommodate the amount of traffic expected for the start of the summer travel season.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will lift lane closures from noon Friday  to noon Tuesday for most of its maintenance, construction and repair projects.

Permanent construction zones with concrete barriers and orange barrels will remain in place, VDOT said.
