Police Officer in Critical Condition After Being Shot; Chase Ends with Crash in Belle Haven

An Alexandria police officer is in critical condition after being shot during a routine traffic stop in Old Town. Officer Peter Laboy suffered multiple wounds including a gunshot wound to the head. The suspect, Kashif Bashir of Woodbridge is charged with malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held without bond. Bashir was driving a cab and led police on a high-speed police chase from Old Town to Belle Haven, where he crashed into a white Mercedes on Fort Hunt Road. The driver of the Mercedes reportedly was not seriously injured, according to Fairfax County Police.

Police: Mount Vernon Resident Joseph Hardin Killed in D.C. Shooting

Mount Vernon resident Joseph Hardin, 30, was killed Saturday at about 1:15 a.m. in a shooting outside a nightclub in the 1900 block of Ninth Street NW, according to Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. Detectives from the police department's Homicide Branch arrested and charged suspect Cedric Spicer, 24, in connection with the shooting.
